Shine A Light Campaign
For the past 10 years, Childline Kenya has been providing access to rescue, counseling, safe shelter, medical care, legal support and reintegration to children in need. Through the helpline 116, we provide a service aimed at providing a voice for the Kenyan Child.
We are alive to the fact that increasingly over the years cases of child abuse have been on the rise. The Helpline statistics show that 90% of abusers are people trusted by children including teachers, family members, religious leaders, neighbors and domestic workers. Sadly, majority of Kenyans do not know the extent of child abuse in the country nor what to do in case it happens. This must change.
It is for this reason that Childline Kenya has partnered with the Yetu Initiative, a project of the Aga Khan Foundation in partnership with USAID, to launch a campaign dubbed “Shine a Light ... because abuse isn’t obvious”. It is a call to arms for Kenyans to rally together to fight child abuse and to be a ray of hope to those in need. Childline aims at:
- Invoking the social consciousness of Kenyans and drive conversation about child protection and how each individual can help an abused child and how they can shine a light to expose child abuse
- Create awareness of Childline Kenya & the services we provide in support of children in need. We would like Kenyans to understand child abuse and how to get help through the Helpline, if such happens
- Invite the Kenyan public to help Childline Kenya “Shine A Light” on child abuse by donating to support the Child Helpline services
The “Shine A Light” campaign will kick-off on the 28th March 2017.
We invite you to be part of this. Together we can end the cycle of abuse, and create safer spaces for our children.
Let us “Shine A Light” on child abuse cases in Kenya
